I was thinking about this the other day when I looked upon my fleet in the driveway:
“Man...I sure do have a lot of cylinders. How many cylinders do I have out here anyway?”
So here’s the challenge, Oppo: tell me how many cars you currently have (if you have a spouse or children who live with you, their cars count as well...so do race cars), what they are, and your TCC: Total Cylinder Count.
Here’s mine:
2000 Ford F-150 XLT 4x4: 8 cylinders.
2003 Mercedes ML350: 6 cylinders.
2008 Ford Crown Vic Police Interceptor: 8 cylinders.
1997 Saturn SL2: 4 cylinders.
1984 Jaguar XJ12 Sovereign: 12 cylinders.
Total Cylinder Count: 38.
Post your answers below, and I’ll announce the first ever Opposite Lock TCC Champion tomorrow!
<—- One of these fabulous trophies could be yours!

That Jag really helps your average! I’ll take a crack at it, although this won’t last long because the 325 and maybe Subaru and Fairlane will be sold soon to pay for the Sienna and get me a different daily:
2005 Toyota Sienna: 6
2003 BMW 325iT: 6
2001 Subaru Outback: 4
1995 Ford F150: 8
1966 Ford Fairlane: 6
1968 BMW 2002: 4
1964 Lancia Flavia: 4
1986 Audi 4000Q: 5
1982 VW Vanagon: 4

Right now it’s 8 between 2 cars:
Mazdaspeed 3 = 4 (turbo, baby)
Scion xB = 4
But at one point it was literally:
Supra #1 =6
Supra #2 =6
Supra #3 =6
IS300 =6
Scion xB =4
_________
28 cylinders, but over time I reduced my fleet.

I’m shocked how many lawn mower ones I’m getting, haha. 36 is still a pretty good damn number.
![]() 07/29/2015 at 15:47 |

I’m a big fan of all the odd numbered totals here, means there’s either Volvo or Isuzu drivers around. Or old Audis, I guess.
![]() 07/29/2015 at 15:48 |
|
Updated it with the vehicles themselves. Also, lawnmowers are one of the few ways to get an uneven number. In addition to Lambos, Vipers, Geo Metros, and Audis.
![]() 07/29/2015 at 15:48 |
|
I should really be doing average numbers too, as a secondary prize. And I’m shocked that there’s been a decent number of odd totals, even when taking out lawn mowers with their single cylinder engines. Lots of 5 bangers out there.

1967 Olds Cutlass
1969 Olds Cutlass

![]() 07/29/2015 at 15:49 |

2014 Subaru BRZ: 4 cylinders
1998 Honda PC800: 2 cylinders
1982 Honda Silverwing GL500 (technically still mine on paper): 2 cylinders
2002 Ford Focus: 2 cylinders (other half’s car, spends half her time with me so I’ll count half her cylinders and who cares because I’m not in trophy contention anyway)
Total Cylinder Count: 10
That’s far below my lifetime maximum of 24, consisting of three 4-cyl cars, a 6-cyl Highlander (not mine), a 4-cyl CB750, and a lawn mower and snowblower at 1-cyl each.
![]() 07/29/2015 at 15:52 |

I think I’m basing it on complete cars with engines. Also, I like that you gave total power and torque. These are things I should have thought of to begin with.

2015 Honda Civic Si
I have just one car because I’m poor people judging by the comment section. Or maybe because I’m single with no kids/wife to rack up the cylinder count. Probably both.
If you count every vehicle I’ve ever owned (or have been responsible for since parents bought them), It would still only be at 25. (2009 Civic (4), 2015 Civic (4), 87 Blazer (8), 96 Toyota T-100 (6), 06 Triumph Daytona (3)). I doubt that would even get me in the points, must less a trophy. Oh bother...

I have one car so I’m out of the running, but my Mom owns a business with a fleet, so:
4x 4cyl Mitsu and Isuzu box trucks: 16
99 Ram: 8
98 Grand Cherokee: 8
96 G. Cherokee: 6
‘10 Sienna: 6
‘03 Santa Fe: 6
90 Wrangler: 6
94 Wrangler: 4
‘02 Neon: 4
Grand Total: 64 Cylinders. And I’m sure I’ve missed a car or two.

Six.
If I replaced my car with the appropriate model of Fiat 500 I could reduce to two cylinders.
Beat that.
![]() 07/29/2015 at 16:44 |

I generally don’t drive them, but they all do my bidding. 70 of those cylinders are in V10 configuration too!
